Welcome to Fauld O Wheat Holiday Lets

Fauld O Wheat Holiday Lets is set on a family–run working farm, just outside the small village of Balmaclellan in south-west Scotland. The business was established in July 2021 on our working farm of 500 sheep amongst an array of other animals.  

Secluded, lochside location

We have two choices of holiday accommodation for you here in rural Dumfries and Galloway.

The Shepherd’s Hut is ideal for romantic breaks for two; whilst The Cottage sleeps six – perfect for family holidays.

With uninterrupted views across Loch Ken, it’s easy to switch off and relax for a while here. Especially when the sun goes down – look up for spot of star-gazing. Our dark skies are legendary!

Shop local

You don’t have far to travel to stock up on supplies either. There are shops in Balmclellan, New Galloway and St John’s Town of Dalry. Then Dumfries and Galloway’s food town of Castle Douglas is a 15 min drive, whilst the artists harbour town of Kirkcudbright (25 min drive). So there’s plenty to explore during your stay here.

This area of south-west Scotland has a lot to offer. Its beautiful unspoilt scenery, walks, mountain-biking, watersports and abundance of local wildlife make it a firm favourite with our guests. Attractions within easy travelling distance include the award-winning pub the Clachan Inn in Dalry and the water sports hub at the Galloway Activity Centre; both only a few miles away. Being situated so close to the Galloway Forest Park, we are in a naturally dark sky area, offering a perfect situation to relax and enjoy the stars shining in a beautiful clear sky.

Wow! What an amazing place! Such a breathtaking location with the most wonderful views. I stayed with my little boy and he described his stay as awesome! We paddled in the Loch and cooked sausages on the fire pit by the water, saw some baby wagtails feeding and in the morning a Hare and a Red Kite came to visit. The hut is cosy with everything that you could need. It was truly wonderful to sit outside and watch the sunset. The bed is so comfortable and we really didn’t want to leave. We can’t wait to visit again. An absolutely 5 star experience. Debbie was delightful and I must say thank you for the delicious millionaire shortbreads.

Wonderful location for getting away from it all. We felt very welcome with a yummy Millionaire's Shortbread snack, and lots of tea/milk/bottled water provided. With a fridge, sink, stove, and cooking stuff, it's easy to cook your own meals here. The bed is comfy, and a lot of care has been put into this tiny house. We enjoyed walking through the sheep fields to Loch Ken, and making a small camp fire with the provided newspaper/wood. One of the highlights of our trip to Scotland.

Absolutely phenomenal stay. The location alone will blow your socks off. We had sheep grazing all around us and could also watch red kites, hares, oyster catchers and highland cows from our window. The shepherds hut is immaculate. Perfect in every way. We were left some sweet treats by the host and there are even some games to play for when it is raining. Me and my boyfriend absolutely loved it and within half an hour of being there said we wanted to come back. Debby is also a very lovely and attentive host, who responds quickly to messages if you have any issues. So. if you are thinking of booking this place go for it, it’s really special and amazing. A nice escape away from everything. PHENOMENAL!

What a beautiful unique space. Beautiful views from the hut. 2 short fields away from loch ken were we launched our little boats. The little details in the hut made it so special and unique. Super cosy and the log burner warms that hut up soo fast! We will most definitely be back here for our next stay. Great place

A really gorgeous little spot for anyone looking for a secluded Scottish get away. Loch Ken is only a 5/10 minute walk through a couple of fields and there’s plenty to do in both Dumfries and Castle Douglas. Debbie’s little hut has everything you need, even down to a few candles to light on an evening which was a lovely touch and made the hut even more cosy. Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful stay. Communication with Debbie was great up to and arriving. Really is a unique space, quiet and secluded. Everything you need is in the hut and the space has been really well thought out. Perfect for a couple of days relaxing and taking in the scenery.

We had a lovely two night stop over to break up our drive from London to Glasgow. The warm and cosy shepherd’s hut is in a field separate from the host’s home so you really feel you have your own space. With lambs on our doorstep and a beautiful view of Loch Ken we got the perfect escape we needed.

Honesty is King! ☺ Fantastic property, can't fault the house itself! Lovely! Beautiful decor, modern contemporary looks. Free welcoming goodies of cake, water and fresh eggs. Loved seeing the sheep coming and going at dawn and dusk. Very homely feeling with good facilities. Would have given 10/10 if not slightly deceptive with location and surroundings. ☹ Location - 12ft from the owner's house (no privacy), roadside location, 50ft from the main road. Description stated "on loch Ken" photos included 2 shots of views of the loch. There are no views of the loch without a 10min walk. I would advise the owners to be more honest about this in the description. Scored 8/10 only due to this folks! I had looked at one other property in Dunoon before booking with views of water. That property was also only 12ft from the owners house with sea views as per photos but they were honest and open about the proximity to the owners house.

Would loved to have stayed longer. ☺ The property had a great feel, spacious with a private outdoor covered area. It was warm and kitchen was one of the best equipped I have come across. Great base for walks or relaxing. Milk in the fridge and treat on arrival. ☹ Google map directions not accurate but directions from Debbie were. There was nothing about the house or location not to like.

Excellent cottage ☺ The cottage was perfect and very well equipped! We only stayed one night on our way to the ferry terminal but it had everything we needed and more! We would definitely be happy stay here longer!
